DNVR.ws
When I JavaScript more than usual...
I absolutely love JavaScript and if you were aware of that already, you know me better than most other people in my life. That fact also keeps getting in the way of me writing to-the-point articles, like this one right now. It is the only language my mind speaks when left alone. I spend all my free time with it building cool UI designs that nearly never meet the public eye, and flashy projects to use when I’m finally out of things to talk about. Today is the day, that changes… a little bit…
I now have another website: DNVR.ws. It hosts all of the projects I have worked on or will work on that I feel are finally okay to turn over to the general public. I also hope to be able to take the time and document my processes in creating the projects that end up there so that it may help anyone make them better.
At this moment, I have two projects up there. The first one is called Scale. It is a perspective view of length scales starting with the smallest theoretical distances to the largest discovered spans. It’s a JavaScript implementation of a similar project by HTwins which was Flash based. I do not, as of now, think it is as good as I want it to be. It is not as populated with stuff as the HTwins project, with a lot of gaps in between that I hope to fill in the coming days. My only selling point is that it works on every modern browser and thus is accessible on smartphones. Hopefully, that will become a secondary factor soon. Do check it out.
The other is called Calculex. It is a JavaScript implementation of a circular scale rule. I have for a long time been obsessed with stationery but none have me mesmerised as much as scale rules. It’s a device on which one could multiply numbers without the use of logarithm tables, with a small margin of error of course. Recently, I came upon this fantastic YouTube video by Numberphile, which had me searching desperately for slide rules on any website that might have sellers. Unfortunately, there weren’t any near me. So, I decided to make one myself and let everyone on the planet have access to it. Right now, I don’t know of any way circular slide rules could be improved, but I’ll constantly be on the lookout.
And that’s about it! I will be adding more of my ideas there as and when they materialise. Do visit and let me know what you think.
